Summary

Olalla Elementary School is a public Pre-K through 5th grade school serving about 315 students in Port Orchard, WA, as part of the South Kitsap School District, and it consistently ranks as one of the top-performing schools in its district and state.

Academically, Olalla stands out for its strong test scores, which are well above both district and state averages, especially in math and science. The school is particularly effective in supporting students from lower-income families, achieving results that rank in the top 15% of schools statewide for that student group. While it performs very well within its own district, second only to nearby Mullenix Ridge Elementary School, comparisons to schools in neighboring districts like Purdy Elementary School show that some schools in wealthier areas achieve higher scores, though Olalla serves a more economically diverse population.

Olalla's consistent performance over time, including a strong recovery from a dip several years ago, suggests stable and effective school leadership. With a student-teacher ratio of about 14 to 1 and per-student spending slightly above the district average, the school uses its resources to deliver strong outcomes. For parents, Olalla represents a reliably high-achieving option within the South Kitsap School District, demonstrating that it is possible to achieve excellent educational results for a varied student community.

Open Quote Attended Olalla 3 yrs ago (2022-23 yr) with a special needs child. The child was assaulted by the special ed teacher, and following an extremely sizable settlement from the district to avoid litigation, along with several violations for improper and illegal handling of IEP’s from WA OSPI, we are incredibly disappointed for current students with IEP’s or requiring services to see this same teacher, A.O. still listed as employed in the same position on the districts directory (as of Feb 2026). If you have a child with sensory needs, under IEP case management, or with any diagnosed disability, I highly encourage you to move them ASAP. And to the principal, T.M. who stated “when the teacher is found innocent, you need to figure out what you’re doing to do next,” I hope you have found more compassion and less desire to defend the indefensible.
