Summary

Oasis K-12 is an alternative public school serving 331 students from kindergarten through 12th grade on rural Orcas Island in the highly-ranked Orcas Island School District.

The school presents a unique profile with notable strengths, particularly in science where 72% of students are proficient, far exceeding the state average. It also outperforms similar alternative schools in the region, such as Ferndale Virtual Academy and Griffin Bay School, in core academic subjects. However, performance is uneven across grades, with middle school math being an area for improvement, and graduation rates have shown significant year-to-year variation despite the school's high per-student spending and very low rate of economic disadvantage among its students.

Compared to nearby alternatives, Oasis serves a much smaller percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and operates with greater financial resources. The school has recently improved its student-teacher ratio dramatically, which may lead to more consistent outcomes. For families considering an alternative education model in the San Juan Islands, Oasis K-12 offers a strong science program and the support of a top-tier district, though its historical volatility in graduation rates is an important factor to consider.

Open Quote I entered this school at the start of my 10th grade year. I had just started getting sever migraines the year before and my gpa went from a 4.0 to 1.4. I was about 6 credits behind and didn't think I was going to graduate. Oasis in truly the only reason I graduated. I also had 2 kids while in oasis and had to stop doing work for a few months. But with the help of my wonderful teacher and the support from the whole staff I graduated only 6 months late and top of my class. The teachers do whatever they can to help you and keep you on track. They do house calls, stay late, whatever you need. A wonderful school! Close Quote
