Summary:

Ferndale School District includes 12 schools serving approximately 4,726 students in the Ferndale, Washington area, with elementary, middle, high school, virtual, re-engagement, and other alternative programs serving grades K–12. Overall performance is mixed: the district ranks 156th of 238 Washington districts, with districtwide proficiency below state averages in English language arts and math, while science is a relative strength.

Ferndale High School is the district’s strongest overall school. It ranks in the 69th percentile statewide, has an 89.2% graduation rate, and a 5.5% dropout rate. Its ELA and science results exceed state averages, though math remains an area for improvement. Among elementary schools, Central Elementary has the strongest overall academic profile and the largest recent ranking improvement, leading traditional elementary schools in ELA and math. Custer Elementary leads in science, while Skyline Elementary posted especially strong science growth. Cascadia Elementary also made notable science gains.

For middle school families, Vista Middle School currently outperforms Horizon Middle School in ELA, math, and science, although Vista has experienced some recent ranking decline. Horizon needs particular attention in eighth-grade math and science. Eagleridge Elementary is the clearest traditional-school concern because it has the lowest reported elementary results and declined in all three subjects. Ferndale Virtual Academy reports lower graduation and higher dropout rates than district and state averages, but serves a different student population. Results at small schools such as Beach Elementary, and schools with suppressed data such as Mountain View Elementary, should be interpreted cautiously.
