Summary

Mount Vernon High School is a large public high school serving grades 9-12 with approximately 1,850 students, acting as the main academic hub for the Mount Vernon School District in an area with several neighboring districts.

The school is on a positive upward trend, recently improving its statewide ranking, and it has a significant strength in graduating students, with an 87.7% graduation rate that exceeds both district and state averages. Academically, it shines in English Language Arts, outperforming nearby schools like Burlington Edison High School and Sedro Woolley Senior High School. However, math and science proficiency are areas for growth, lagging behind the state and some local peers. The school's effectiveness varies for different student groups, showing notable success with some while facing critical challenges in supporting English Language Learners and students in special education.

Compared to other local high schools, Mount Vernon High is the largest and is unique for its improving academic trajectory and strong graduation focus, even while operating with a higher student-teacher ratio and lower per-pupil spending than some neighbors. While Sedro Woolley Senior High School has a higher graduation rate and Burlington Edison High School excels in science, Mount Vernon High's core strength in English and commitment to student completion make it a distinctive option in the region.

Open Quote They have great teachers in the english and science. Thats about it. The students are rude and least interested in school (this is a generalization). The campus is medium small sized. I actually go to this school and I am very focused on my studies. I really wish that there could be a another school for focused student that want to succeed. There is no management fault, the staff do there best and are devoted. I did not mean to offend the school in anyway, i just believe the extra kids cause distractions to the students that want to be successful. Close Quote
