Summary

Little Mountain Elementary is a public K-5 school serving 381 students in the Mount Vernon School District, an area where the district as a whole faces significant academic challenges, with all its elementary schools ranking in the bottom 30% statewide.

Academically, the school's performance is below state averages, with about 35% of students proficient in English, 27% in math, and 33% in science. Its performance is mixed compared to nearby schools in the same district; it is outperformed by Jefferson Elementary (just 0.39 miles away) and Centennial Elementary, but it performs better than Washington Elementary. The school has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over recent years and currently holds a 1-star rating. There are notable performance differences between grades and student groups, with a particular strength in 5th-grade English but a significant drop in performance for English Language Learners in recent years.

Interesting comparisons emerge when looking at schools in neighboring districts. For instance, Conway School District 317 and schools in the Sedro-Woolley School District like Clear Lake Elementary and Big Lake Elementary achieve much higher proficiency rates while spending less per student than Little Mountain, suggesting that factors beyond funding, such as curriculum and instruction, play a key role in student outcomes.

Open Quote This school has been a complete nightmare. Negative culture, overcrowded, and very unwelcoming to parents. Don't reccomend Close Quote

Open Quote I have been nothing but impressed with this school and the staff. My child has received a very good early education from teachers and staff that care about all the students they work with. The test scores, and parent/community gossip does not seem to represent the real effort that is being done in this school. I expect nothing but greatness, and improved ranking from the Mt. Vernon School district. Close Quote
