Summary

Todd Beamer High School is a public high school serving about 1,400 students in grades 9-12 within the Federal Way School District, a district that faces significant academic challenges across the board.

The school presents a complex picture for parents: it graduates students at a higher rate than both the district and state averages, which is a real strength, but its students' proficiency in core subjects is very low, especially in math where only about 12% are proficient. In contrast, its science scores are a relative bright spot, outperforming other local high schools like Decatur High School and Federal Way High School. However, the school's dropout rate is higher than these neighboring comprehensive schools, and it spends more per student than they do while having larger average class sizes.

When compared to Fife High School in the nearby Fife School District, the differences are stark, with Fife showing significantly higher proficiency in English and math. Within Todd Beamer, support for some student groups, like English Learners, appears more effective, while other groups show much lower performance. The overall trend is that the school successfully helps students earn a diploma but struggles to ensure they master key academic skills measured by state tests.

Open Quote According to the University of Washington this is one of the least successful high schools in the State and yet the parents don't seem to care!

They continue to believe that since it is the newest it is the best in the area.

SAT results suggest that they are delusional. Close Quote
