Decatur High School is a public grades 9–12 school in the Federal Way area, serving 1,352 students in the Federal Way School District. Its 20.9-to-1 student–teacher ratio is typical for a large comprehensive high school, and 64.79% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25, indicating that many families may have significant economic needs. The school ranked at the 15th percentile among Washington high schools in 2025–26, although that was an improvement from the 9th percentile two years earlier.

One of Decatur High School’s clearest strengths is helping students stay enrolled and graduate. Its 2024–25 graduation rate was 90.4%, higher than the Federal Way School District rate of 84.9% and the Washington rate of 82.6%. Its 3.5% dropout rate was also less than half the district rate. Among the nearby traditional Federal Way high schools, Decatur High School had the highest graduation rate and lowest dropout rate.
