Academic performance is below both district and state averages in every reported subject. In 2025–2026, 34.69% of students were proficient in English language arts, 16.80% in math, and 29.65% in science. Math is the clearest concern: proficiency was below 20% in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, and improved by less than one percentage point from the prior year. Among nearby traditional middle schools with similar levels of economic need, Lakota Middle School and Kilo Middle School performed notably better, ranking in the 43rd and 38th percentiles, respectively. Sacajawea Middle School and Illahee Middle School were also slightly ahead overall.
