Summary

Kilo Middle School is a public school serving about 670 students in grades 6-8 within the Federal Way School District in Auburn, WA, operating in a district that faces significant academic challenges across the state.

Despite this challenging context, Kilo consistently outperforms the average for its own district in English, math, and science, with its science scores being notably strong compared to peers like Lakota Middle School and Illahee Middle School. The school is on a positive upward trend, with test scores and its statewide ranking improving significantly over the past year, showing a stronger recovery than some neighboring schools such as Sequoyah Middle School. It is important to note that the exceptional 5-star Federal Way Public Academy is a selective admissions school with a very different student population, making direct comparisons difficult.

When looking at schools in the neighboring Auburn School District, Kilo's performance is mixed; it is outperformed by Mt Baker Middle School but scores higher than Olympic Middle School. The school shows particular effectiveness in supporting English Language Learners and demonstrates efficient use of its resources, maintaining a better student-to-teacher ratio than several area schools while spending less per student than some with weaker results.

Open Quote Excellent school if you take the time to communicate with your child and teachers. Great music and physical education programs. Teachers have a lot going on but this has more to do with the school system as a whole. It is up to us as parents to work with our children and the school. Asst. Principal James Crawford helped our family so much to have a successful experience. You really get what you give. Be a part of your child's learning and become active in the school. My son loved the school. The Middle School years are not easy. Open communication is the key and being active. Be part of the solution and not the problems. The school is open and will work with you and your child in any way they can. Close Quote
