Summary

Cascade Middle School is a public school serving 966 students in grades 6-8 within the Auburn School District, consistently ranking in the lower third of Washington middle schools with below-average academic proficiency rates in core subjects.

Academically, the school's performance lags behind both district and state averages, with particular challenges in math and science. While it performs similarly to some peers like Olympic Middle School within Auburn, it falls significantly behind the district's top performer, Mt. Baker Middle School, which has notably higher proficiency rates. Comparisons to nearby schools in other districts, such as Meridian Middle School in the Kent School District, reveal that geographically close students can have access to higher-performing educational options, highlighting the impact of district boundaries.

The school serves a high-need population and has experienced a decline in its statewide ranking in recent years. Performance data shows a typical "middle school slump," with a notable drop in 7th-grade scores before a partial recovery in 8th grade. Despite these challenges, Cascade's per-student spending is lower than several higher-performing nearby schools, and the existence of better-performing schools with similar demographics within the region suggests that targeted strategies could potentially lead to improvement.

Open Quote Cascade Middle School has far exceeded my expectations. With the transition from elementary to middle school being difficult for most students the teachers and staff at Cascade have embraced each child and encouraged them to reach beyond their limits to excel in both the classroom and extra curricular activities. I have seen nothing but positives come out of the school. Mr. Johnson has done a fantastic job being there for the children, parents and staff. Many things have been talked about in the community about the diversity at Cascade. I for one see it as a blessing. Life is not about living in a bubble, life is about seeing the world in which we live in. Cascade Middle School offers a fantastic learning environment and teaches our children about how they can make a difference in not only their community but the world in general. The teachers and staff should be very proud of the work they have accomplished. You are helping develop of future generations of very bright children. Your time and effort is not going unnoticed. Bravo!! Close Quote
