Summary

Brooke Point High School is a large public high school in Stafford County, Virginia, serving 2,199 students in grades 9 through 12 as part of Stafford County Public Schools. The school has shown meaningful improvement in recent years, moving from the 28th percentile statewide in 2023–2024 to the 42nd percentile in 2025–2026, earning a 2-star rating and ranking 191st out of 331 Virginia high schools. Despite this progress, Brooke Point trails most of its same-district neighbors, including Mountain View High (79th percentile), North Stafford High (75th percentile), Colonial Forge High (73rd percentile), and Stafford Senior High (49th percentile).

The school's most pressing challenge is chronic absenteeism. At 27.4% in 2024–2025, Brooke Point's rate is nearly double the state average of 14.8% and well above the district's 17.5%. This has been a persistent issue, hovering between 22% and 29% for the past four years. Absenteeism appears to be connected to other struggles: the dropout rate has climbed from 1.9% in 2021–2022 to 6.7% in 2024–2025, and the graduation rate has slipped from 95.6% to 91.6%. Test scores follow a similar pattern, with 9th- and 10th-grade Algebra I, Biology, and English Reading proficiency running notably below district and state averages, while upper-grade scores are much stronger.

There are bright spots worth noting. Brooke Point's African American students rank in the 56th percentile statewide, a notably strong result compared with the school's overall ranking. Disabled students and military-connected students have also shown significant improvement in recent years. The school serves a growing share of economically disadvantaged families, with 42.97% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, yet nearby North Stafford High achieves a 75th percentile ranking with an even higher poverty rate. This suggests Brooke Point's challenges are not simply a matter of demographics. With per-student funding of $8,331 below most comparable Stafford-area schools, additional resources and a renewed focus on attendance could help the school build on its recent momentum.
