Summary

Rappahannock County Elementary is a public elementary school serving grades PK-7 in Washington, VA, with 466 students. The school is part of the Rappahannock County Public Schools district, which is ranked 82 out of 129 districts in Virginia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Rappahannock County Elementary faces several key challenges, including high chronic absenteeism rates that have risen from 5.7% in 2020-2021 to 19.3% in 2022-2023, notably higher than the state average and nearby schools. The school's academic performance is mixed, with some strong results in 5th grade math and 7th grade reading, but struggles in 3rd grade reading and 6th grade math, often falling below state averages. Subgroup performance also varies significantly, with White students and students of low socioeconomic status performing notably worse than the overall school.

Despite spending significantly more per student ($10,954 in 2020-2021) compared to nearby schools like A.S. Rhodes Elementary and Springfield Elementary, which have similar demographics, Rappahannock County Elementary generally underperforms on test scores and has higher chronic absenteeism rates. The school's statewide ranking has also steadily declined over the past 10 years, suggesting it is struggling to keep pace with other elementary schools in Rappahannock County Public Schools.

Open Quote We relocated many years ago from NOVA and this was the best move we could of ever made. Both the high school and elementary school are excellent! The class room size is small, allowing for a more productive lesson and they offer longer class schedules. I would never leave this area as my children are receiving an education that is incomparable to any other district I have seen. Bravo. Close Quote

Open Quote I have three kids in the school and have been very happy with the teachers, the curriculum and the sense of community from being in a small school system. Close Quote
