Summary

Quioccasin Middle is a public middle school located in Richmond, Virginia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,013 students. It is part of the Henrico County Public Schools district, which is ranked 89 out of 129 school districts in Virginia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Quioccasin Middle has consistently underperformed compared to the Henrico County Public Schools district and the state of Virginia in most subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in Mathematics (6th-8th grade) and Science (8th grade) were significantly lower than the district and state averages. The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 13.6% to 19.3% over the past few years, which is higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, Quioccasin Middle's rankings for various student subgroups, such as Asian, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students, are among the lowest in the state.

Interestingly, Quioccasin Middle is located in close proximity to several other middle schools in the Henrico County Public Schools district, such as Holman Middle, George H. Moody Middle, and Short Pump Middle, which consistently outperform Quioccasin Middle in academic achievement and other key metrics. Despite increased spending per student, from $6,869 in 2018-2019 to $7,763 in 2020-2021, the school's academic outcomes have not improved. When compared to schools in the Richmond City Public Schools district, which is ranked 115 out of 129 in Virginia, Quioccasin Middle generally outperforms these schools in academic achievement, though this comparison highlights the significant challenges faced by both districts in providing high-quality education to their students.

Open Quote I have a 10th grader who attended QMS and a 7th grader currently attending. Both of my kids have had overall positive experiences there. Middle school is very much what you make it. There will be some teachers your kid will like better than others, but I think its beneficial for them to adapt to different teaching styles. There are many clubs and extracurriculars that your child(ren) can join and participate in. There are always opportunities for parents to get involved and help our school be the best it can be. Open Quote Favoritism at its best ! Also, what kind of teacher gives a packet for kids to do over the summer of 5 continents and their capitals and such!??!
Then threatens a test 2 weeks after school starts? Way to stress the child and parent out and make summer non enjoyable. I will be reporting to the superintendent as summer is NOT for school work this intense. Close Quote

Open Quote I have had kids at this school for 4 years and will be there for several more. I have had a very good experience. The teachers are dedicated and supportive, the principals and counselors know all the kids well and work to give them what they need to succeed. The school has classes for advanced and gifted, ESL, and regular ed, with built in collaborative classes as well as self-contained classrooms for those that need it. The diversity is amazing. My child has friends from multiple countries, religions and ethnicities. The school accomodates for fasting children during Ramadan and has kosher options for kids that require it. Other schools might have higher testing ranks, but I feel that the diversity is something that all schools should be so lucky to have. Close Quote
