Summary

Jackson Davis Elementary is a PK–5 school in Richmond, Virginia, serving 535 students in the Henrico County Public Schools district, which itself ranks at the 31st percentile statewide. The school currently sits at the 42nd percentile among Virginia elementary schools — above the district's overall performance but below the state median, with a 2-star rating.

One of Jackson Davis's clearest strengths is attendance. Chronic absenteeism was just 9.1% in 2024-25, well below the district's 14.1% and the state's 14.8%, a remarkable achievement given that roughly 88% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. The school also outperforms several neighbors serving similar poverty levels: Dumbarton Elementary and Ridge Elementary have nearly identical free/reduced lunch rates but rank at just the 3rd and 2nd percentiles statewide, while Jackson Davis sits at the 42nd. That said, the school has slid from a 74th-percentile peak in 2022-23, with third-grade math proficiency dropping from 90.4% to 70.6%.

The most actionable concern is a persistent fifth-grade slump. Jackson Davis outperforms its district in third and fourth grade — fourth-grade math proficiency is 83.3%, about 17 points above the district — but fifth-grade results fall below both district and state averages across math, reading, and science. Since fifth grade is the final year before middle school, this pattern deserves attention. There's also a notable gender gap: boys rank at the 56th percentile statewide while girls rank at the 30th. On the positive side, the school's attendance record and its relative success compared with similar high-poverty neighbors suggest strong family engagement and effective support systems. For parents considering Jackson Davis, the early grades are a clear strength, but it's worth asking how the school addresses the upper-elementary transition.

Open Quote Davis is a great elementary school, with a warm, welcoming, friendly feel. You will never meet a more welcoming, friendly office staff! The only minor negative is that Davis is an older school, with an outdoor campus, and could use some sprucing up. However, the excellent principal, very active PTA and caring teachers make this an excellent school. The administration cares about parent input and each child's needs, whether it is to be challenged or assisted with catching up, are addressed. This school is quite multicultural, and students are not only taught to respect diversity with words, but they live it everyday. My child had friends of many races, ethnic backgrounds and national origins at Davis. Close Quote
