Summary

Academy Park School is an elementary school in West Valley City, Utah, serving 371 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Granite School District, which is ranked 70 out of 93 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Over the past 10 years, Academy Park School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Utah elementary schools.

The school faces several challenges, including very high chronic absenteeism rates, well-below-average test scores across all grade levels and subject areas, and a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a concentration of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, the school has a relatively high student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools, which may impact the level of individual attention students receive. When comparing Academy Park School to nearby schools in the Granite School District, such as Silver Hills, West Kearns, and David Gourley, it becomes clear that Academy Park School is one of the lowest-performing schools in the area.

To address the school's challenges, the Granite School District and the Academy Park School administration may need to explore targeted interventions and support programs to improve student attendance, provide additional academic support, and engage with families to address any barriers to student success. By addressing the underlying factors contributing to the school's challenges, the goal would be to improve student outcomes and overall school performance.

Open Quote I attended this school a long time ago. And over the years it has just gotten worse. I think it is the area that is around the school as well. The area is not the greatest. I have helped out teachers in the school and it seems like more and more children are coming to school with no discipline at home and parents not caring about what their kids are doing in school. Which in turns makes their students act up in the class and don't wanna listen to the teacher. If I ever moved back to this district I would get a waver and put my child in another school.
