Summary

Cypresswood Elementary in Humble, TX, serves 737 students in grades 1 through 5 within the Aldine Independent School District (Isd), operating in a high-poverty area where nearly 80% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school stands out for its strong bilingual and ESL program, which significantly outperforms both the district and state averages. For example, in 2025-2026, 4th grade Spanish-language reading scores reached 66.67% proficiency, nearly double the district's 35.58% and state's 37.14%. This is a stark contrast to nearby Ogden Elementary, which scored 0% in all Spanish-language tests. Cypresswood is also showing a notable upward trend, climbing to the 26th percentile overall—its highest rank in six years—driven by strong 4th grade performance in reading (49.62%) and math (46.62%). However, a persistent weakness is 5th grade science, where only 5.92% of students were proficient in 2024-2025, the lowest among comparable nearby schools like Jones Elementary (29.03%).

Compared to other schools, Cypresswood is outperforming its closest Aldine peer, Ogden Elementary (5th percentile), but is being outperformed by Humble Elementary (64th percentile) in the higher-ranked Humble Independent School District (Isd). Just 4 miles away, the Sam Houston State University Charter School (83rd percentile) achieves proficiency rates 20-30 points higher in every subject, showing what is possible in the area. Despite spending less per pupil ($9,753) than peers like Mildred Jenkins Elementary ($12,293), Cypresswood achieves better results than Ogden, suggesting efficient use of resources. The school appears to be in transition, with a "4th grade peak" phenomenon where scores are strongest at that level, but challenges remain in preparing students for the transition to middle school, especially in science.

Open Quote My son attended Cypresswood Elementary the first year they opened as a 1st grader. I was beyond pleased with the school principal, staff and his teacher. Ms. Gates is by far one of the most down to earth and loving teachers he has had. She communicates very well with her parents and always responds in a timely manner. I joined the PTA to get closer with the staff and involved with the school since it was their 1st year opened and it was a great experience. The school isn't perfect. They were still figuring out the minor details of car rider lines and pick ups at the beginning of the year but by the end, it was all running smoothly. For the 2015-2016 they were the top ranked school in ALDINE ISD for parent volunteers. They love their parents and their parents love them. Close Quote
