Summary

Harmony Science Academy - Cypress is a K-5 charter school in Cypress, TX, serving 656 students as part of the Harmony Public Schools - Houston North district, and it has climbed to the 75th percentile statewide—placing it in the top quarter of Texas elementary schools.

This school stands out for its exceptional results with students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who rank in the 82nd percentile statewide, outperforming many nearby schools with similar or higher poverty rates. For instance, McFee Elementary (83% economically disadvantaged) and Holmsley Elementary (80%) both rank in the bottom 30-40% of schools statewide. Harmony Science Academy also excels in reading, with 5th-grade proficiency at 70.37%—well above the state average of 58.47%—and its Gifted and Talented program ranks in the 94th percentile. However, 4th-grade math is a persistent weakness, with proficiency rates below both district and state averages, though 5th-grade math shows a strong recovery. The school has also made remarkable progress with English Language Learners, jumping from the 56th to the 82nd percentile in recent years.

Compared to nearby Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Isd) schools, Harmony Science Academy offers a consistently high-quality option in a neighborhood where performance varies widely. While top CFISD schools like Copeland Elementary and Postma Elementary rank higher, many others—such as Emery Elementary, Duryea Elementary, and Andre Elementary—rank in the bottom 40%. Notably, Harmony achieves these results with efficient spending ($10,866 per student), less than several lower-performing neighbors like Hoover Elementary ($11,318). One area for improvement is Special Education support, which dropped to the 48th percentile, suggesting resources may be focused elsewhere.

Open Quote The school is marketed as a science academy, yet has the same curriculum as a normal elementary and low science scores. The administration is inept. They've been combative and have the "I have other things to do" attitude. The staff will send a child home for rubbing their eyes. A child was sent home for getting sick after seeing another child get sick. Gag reflex wasn't considered. The medical mentality is "let the parent deal". That's fine if they're sick, but what happened to lying the kid down and letting their stomachs settle?

A few positives - Most of the teachers are good educators. The student body is diverse. The teachers and principal do communicate thoroughly through an app, email, and calls.

With the administrative issues and my kids getting the same education as a local elementary, we've pulled them out of Harmony and would rather send them back to the local school. Close Quote
