Summary

Andre Elementary is a PK-5 school in Cypress, TX, serving 1,014 students as part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Isd), and it has experienced a dramatic decline from a 4-star rating (80th percentile) in 2017-2018 to a 2-star rating (30th percentile) in the most recent data, a trend that sets it apart from many nearby schools.

The school's most significant academic challenge is in mathematics, where proficiency rates are alarmingly low compared to district and state averages. For example, in 4th grade math, only 32.61% of Andre students are proficient, which is roughly half the rate at nearby Copeland Elementary (71.23%). This struggle persists despite the school spending $10,037 per student, which is higher than several higher-performing peers like Rennell Elementary ($8,457) and Postma Elementary ($8,602). Reading performance is more mixed, with 5th grade reading proficiency (58.82%) slightly above the state average (58.47%), but the school still lags behind the district average (66.24%).

Andre Elementary is geographically surrounded by some of the highest-performing schools in the state, including Rennell Elementary (97th percentile), McGown Elementary (98th percentile), and Byrd Elementary (95th percentile), all within 2.25 miles. The contrast is stark: Byrd Elementary, just 1 mile away, is a 5-star school with 75-87% proficiency in reading and math, while Andre struggles with rates often below 50%. The school serves a population where 69.33% of students are economically disadvantaged, a figure much higher than at these nearby high-performing schools, highlighting a localized challenge that requires targeted intervention to reverse its fortunes.

Open Quote Lack of communication between school administration and parents. Focuses more on passing STAAR tests than actual teaching. Behind compared to other elementary schools in district. Close Quote

Open Quote If I could give 0 stars, I would.

My children are great students, and they used to enjoy school everyday. However, after locating to this school district and being assigned to Andre Elementary, their love for school has suffered immensely. Extremely rude staff, highly rigid rules and exaggerated stress put on students for tests has stripped my children of their love for academics, and they now dread going to school everyday. "Private Dining" (aka: eating alone) and "Think Path" (aka: walking during recess alone in the hot Texas sun) is overused. Frankly, I would liken this school to a correctional facility. It absolutely breaks my heart.

I would like to add that we have tried to fix the situation(s), however, our pleas fall on deaf ears of the staff of Andre Elementary. If you care about your child's deep love for education and caring staff, I strongly urge you to check out this school several times, and talk with parents who send their children there. There will be much work ahead of me to re-instill the love of learning for my disheartened children. Close Quote
