Summary

Hunters Lane High is a public magnet high school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 1,394 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Davidson County school district, which is ranked 122 out of 139 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hunters Lane High consistently ranks in the bottom 25% of Tennessee high schools, with a ranking between 295-360 out of 389-392 schools over the past 5 years. Its performance on state assessments (TNReady) is significantly below the Davidson County and Tennessee averages across all subject areas and grade levels. The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 18.9% to 42.6% in recent years, much higher than the state and district averages. Additionally, Hunters Lane High has a 4-year graduation rate around 85-89%, slightly below the state average, and a dropout rate ranging from 6.7% to 17.6% over the past few years.

Compared to nearby public high schools, such as McGavock High, Hume-Fogg High, and East Nashville Magnet High, Hunters Lane High performs significantly worse in terms of academic achievement, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism. Despite spending significantly more per student ($21,022 in 2023-2024) than the state and district averages, the school's higher funding does not seem to translate into improved student outcomes. Addressing the school's challenges will require a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improve academic achievement, graduation rates, and overall student engagement and well-being.

Open Quote Drugs, violence, racial intolerance, numerous healthcode violations,an administration that is non-responsive to serious concerns voiced by students and parents and extremely low academic standards. This school is one of the reasons why there are so many families having to pay for private education and or homeschooling. So much for a free appropriate education! Close Quote
