Summary

RePublic High School is a public high school in North Nashville serving 587 students in grades 9–12, and it is part of Metro Nashville Public Schools. The school’s state ranking has fallen sharply in recent years, from the 34th percentile (2 stars) in 2021–22 to just the 8th percentile (0 stars) in 2025–26. This decline stands out because several nearby schools have been moving in the opposite direction. KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School climbed from the 35th to the 58th percentile, and East Nashville Magnet High School improved from the 18th to the 53rd percentile over the same stretch. RePublic is now ranked near Whites Creek High School and well below top magnets like Martin Luther King Junior School and Hume-Fogg High School.

Academically, proficiency rates at RePublic trail both district and state averages in nearly every subject. In 2025–26, just 11.4% of students were proficient in Algebra I and 10.9% in Geometry, compared to state rates of 32.3% and 42.3%. English II is the relative bright spot, though it still lags the state. The school’s graduation rate was 85.5% in 2024–25, above the district’s 83.4% but below the state’s 90.5%, and it has declined from 94.2% in 2021–22. The dropout rate has more than doubled to 14.5%, well above the state’s 6.7% though below nearby Maplewood High School’s 26.9%.

Chronic absenteeism is perhaps the most pressing concern. In 2024–25, 54.6% of RePublic students were chronically absent—more than double the district rate of 23.3% and triple the state rate of 18.3%. Nearby KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School, by contrast, had just 10.1% chronic absenteeism. The school spends about $15,407 per student, similar to Hume-Fogg but below many nearby high schools. Subgroup results are uneven, with strong recent outcomes for English Learner and special education students, but significant declines among the school’s largest student groups. Together, the pattern of high absenteeism, rising dropout rates, and low test scores suggests RePublic is facing serious challenges that recent reforms have not yet reversed.
