Summary

League Academy is a public middle school in Greenville, SC, serving 787 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Greenville 01 school district, and it consistently ranks among the top 15% of middle schools in the state.

League Academy is a strong academic choice, particularly for families prioritizing math and literacy. The school posts an extraordinary 98.28% proficiency rate on the Algebra 1 End-of-Course exam, far exceeding the district average of 85.64% and the state average of 73.95%. English Language Arts scores are also consistently strong, running 10-18 percentage points above state averages across all grade levels. The school also earns high marks for its support of students with disabilities, ranking in the 85th percentile statewide. Compared to nearby options, League Academy outperforms schools like Tanglewood Middle and Berea Middle by 30-40 percentage points in proficiency rates, while performing on par with Greenville Middle Academy. However, Riverside Middle and Northwood Middle show stronger 8th-grade math scores, suggesting that League's exceptional Algebra 1 results may be driven by a select group of advanced students while the general math curriculum shows a narrower advantage in later grades.

There are important areas to watch. While overall performance is strong, the school has seen a rapid decline in outcomes for African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students over the past two years, with those subgroups now ranking in the bottom third of the state. This widening achievement gap is a significant equity concern. On a positive note, League Academy reduced chronic absenteeism from 24.4% to 19.8%, now below both district and state averages, and it achieves these results with moderate per-student spending of $12,459—less than several lower-performing nearby schools. For parents, this is a school with excellent overall academics and dedicated special education support, but one where you may want to ask specific questions about how the school is addressing the needs of all learners.

Open Quote Teachers do not look out for students 90 of the time. There are few good teachers, mainly the related arts teachers. Yes, there is vaping and a lot of fighting. There is even drug abuse. Bullying is rarely addressed and often overlooked by administrators. Close Quote
