Summary

Corvallis High School is a 9–12 comprehensive high school of about 1,273 students at 1400 NW Buchanan Ave in Corvallis, Oregon, and is one of the two comprehensive high schools in the Corvallis School District 509J, a district ranked among the strongest in the state. Corvallis High itself ranks 59th of 271 Oregon high schools (78th percentile, 4 stars) in 2025–26 — solidly in the top quarter statewide and, for the first time in years, within a handful of places of the best nearby schools.

Its defining story is a turnaround. After reaching the 96th percentile in 2014–15, the school slid to the 24th percentile in 2021–22, then gained 54 percentile points in four years — its best standing since 2017–18. The gap to its neighbors collapsed in a single year: in 2024–25 it ranked 105th while Crescent Valley High School was 20th and Philomath High School was 10th; a year later Crescent Valley (54th) and West Albany High School (57th) had slipped while Corvallis climbed to 59th, turning a wide gap into a tight top cluster.

Math is Corvallis High's signature strength: 34.6% of 11th graders were proficient, the best among nearby comprehensive high schools and roughly 1.5 times the state rate, while English language arts sits at 60.5% — well above the state but third-best locally. The school is also unusually effective with students who are often underserved, ranking 3rd of 93 Oregon high schools for special education students and 18th of 152 for low-income students. The flip side is chronic absenteeism of 40.5% — the highest among comparable local schools and above both the state and district averages — which rose again last year. Science (41.6%) trails the district average, and effectiveness for gifted and talented students has declined for three straight years. It achieves these results with mid-pack funding ($19,543 per student) and among the heaviest teaching loads in its peer group.
