Unity Academy

Unity Academy is a very small public high school at 2231 Schrock Rd in northeast Columbus (43219) serving grades 9–12 with just 96 students — roughly one-fifth the size of nearby Beechcroft High School and one-twentieth the size of Orange High School. It operates as its own single-school district.

For 2025–2026, the school earned 3 stars and ranked 302 of 795 Ohio high schools (62nd percentile). It beats the state average in three of five tested subjects: American Government 90.5% (state 71.6%), Biology 85.7% (state 67%) and Geometry 63.3% (state 43.3%). English II (58.8%) and Algebra I (52.9%) fall below the state averages. A mile away, Beechcroft High School posts Government 58.7%, Biology 22%, English II 32.8% and Geometry 10.1%. Unity's overall ranking lands in the same band as the three Westerville high schools even though 91.07% of its students were economically disadvantaged in 2023–2024, compared with 18.9% at Orange High School. That places it well ahead of the Columbus City Schools District schools that would otherwise be its default neighborhood assignment.

The most striking trend in the data is chronic absenteeism, which fell from 76.8% to 57.8% to 38.2% to 28.7% over four years. It is now roughly level with Westerville Central High School (28.6%) and less than half the rate at Beechcroft High School (65.1%) or Northland High School (76.6%). Subgroup results are stronger than the school's overall standing: African American students rank at the 91st percentile of comparable schools statewide with 5 stars, and low-income students at the 84th percentile with 4 stars. Two caveats: with only 96 students, one or two students can shift a percentage sharply, and the reported 24-to-1 student-teacher ratio for 2024–2025 follows far lower figures, so it is not a stable measure of classroom conditions. No graduation rate or per-pupil spending figure is reported — treat those as unknown rather than as a weakness.
