Northland High School is a grades 9–12 school in Columbus, OH, serving 1,029 students as part of Columbus City Schools District, making it larger than any other same-district high school in this comparison set. The district ranks 683rd of 773 statewide (12th percentile, 1 star), and Northland High School ranks lower still in 2025–2026 at 731st of 795 (8th percentile, 0 stars), down from the 16th percentile in 2021–2022.

Test proficiency trails the state in every reported subject. The largest gaps are in Algebra I (19.6% vs. 61.6% statewide) and English II (26.3% vs. 62.7%); in English II, Northland is also below its district and below every same-district peer. There is an improvement story, though from a very low base: every reported subject gained from 2023–2024 to 2025–2026, with Algebra I rising from 2.6% to 19.6%. Graduation is a relative bright spot at 83.3%, above the district's 81.5% and above Whetstone High School, Mifflin High School, and Beechcroft High School. Chronic absenteeism is the biggest red flag: 76.6%, far above the district's 53.8% and worse than every same-district peer except Mifflin. Whetstone enrolls almost the same number of students (1,017) but posts much higher proficiency and lower absenteeism, suggesting Northland's challenges are not simply district-wide or size-related. Nearby, Thomas Worthington High School, Horizon Science Academy Columbus, and Unity Academy all outperform Northland, while Focus North High School trails it.

The good: Good instrumental music program. A few really good teachers.

The bad: Incompetent and insensitive administrators. Many mediocre teachers and staff.
