Mathews Junior High School is a small school in Vienna, Ohio, serving 139 students in grades 6–8 as part of the Mathews Local district, making it the smallest middle school in its local comparison group. In 2025–2026, Mathews Junior High School ranked at the 54th percentile statewide with 3 stars, slightly above its district's 51st percentile and solidly in the middle of Ohio schools. Its recent history has been bumpy: it sat between the 42nd and 50th percentiles through the late 2010s, climbed to the 52nd–58th range, jumped to the 70th percentile and 4 stars in 2024–2025, then slipped back to the 54th. Algebra I results have also been excellent — 100% proficient in two recent years and 92.9% in another — though that reflects a small, advanced group. One figure stands out as odd: a reported student-teacher ratio of 46.3, more than double every nearby school, which is worth verifying. Overall, Mathews most closely resembles Hubbard Middle School — behind Howland Middle School and Lakeview Middle School, but ahead of several others locally.
