Howland Local in Ohio has five schools—three elementary, one middle, and one high—serving students from kindergarten through grade 12, with 2,283 students enrolled and a district rank of 232 of 773, or the 70th percentile with 4 stars.

The district is solid overall, but its schools differ. Howland Middle School is the clearest standout: 699 students in grades 5-8, rank 196 of 1046 (81st percentile, 4 stars), above-state scores, and Algebra I at 97.8% in 2025-26 and 100% in 2024-25. Its chronic absenteeism is 20.6%, below the district’s 23.8%. Howland High School has 696 students in grades 8-12, a 96.5% graduation rate, and strong End of Course results, including Geometry at 73.1% vs. 43.3% state in 2025-26. But Algebra I was 57.4% in 2025-26, below state and district, and chronic absenteeism is 34.0%. Its rank slipped to 238 of 795 (70th percentile, 4 stars). Howland Glen Elementary School (K-2) and Howland Springs Elementary School (grade 2 only) have no state test results here.

Mines Elementary School has the lowest absenteeism but 3 stars; Howland High School has the highest absenteeism but 4 stars, a 96.5% graduation rate, and mostly strong EOC scores. Howland Springs Elementary School has the smallest enrollment (217), the highest free/reduced lunch rate (51.15%), and the highest elementary absenteeism (25.6%). The district is 4-star and 70th percentile, but Glen and Springs lack building-level rank data, so the full elementary picture is incomplete.
