Southway Elementary School is a K–4 school in Massillon, Ohio, serving 474 students as part of Perry Local Schools, a highly rated district that ranks 121 of 773 Ohio districts (84th percentile, 4 stars). Southway itself is rated 3 stars and ranked 520 of 1,560 Ohio schools in 2025–26, placing it in the 67th percentile — solidly above the state average, but the lower performer among the nearby Perry Local elementaries.

In 2025–26, Southway scored above the Ohio average in all four tested areas, including 76.3% in 3rd-grade ELA (12.9 points above the state) and 77.9% in 4th-grade math (10.6 points above). Yet it trailed the district average in all four, and Lohr Elementary School and Watson Elementary School — both 4-star, higher-ranked schools — outperformed Southway in nearly every tested area. Avondale Elementary School, a nearby Plain Local school, also outperformed Southway in all four 2025–26 tests. All four Southway scores improved over 2024–25, and the school's low-income students are a genuine bright spot: that group ranked in the 78th percentile with 4 stars, above the school's overall 67th percentile.

Attendance is the clearest challenge. Southway's chronic absenteeism was 16.0% in 2025–26, better than the district's 18.5%, but about double Lohr (8.3%), Watson (8.2%), and Avondale (7.2%). Southway also serves more economically disadvantaged students: its free/reduced lunch rate was 61.81% in 2024–25, versus 42.47% at Lohr and 49.32% at Watson. Even so, it compares favorably with most other nearby schools, outperforming Cedar Elementary School and Harter Elementary School in Canton City and far outpacing nearby charters such as Summit Academy Community School for Alternative Learn-Canton, Canton College Preparatory School, and Beacon Academy.
