Chronic absenteeism is the bigger issue: 48.5% of students, versus 35.9% district-wide and far above McDonald (21.9%), Lordstown (23.9%), Mathews (23.9%), Mineral Ridge (24.5%), Howland (34.0%), and Girard (37.4%). Only Warren Harding (58.3%) and River Gate (93.9%) are higher. It has improved from 57.8% in 2021–22, but remains high.

Results by subject are uneven. Algebra I is a strength at 70.5% proficient, above the state's 61.6%, and English II is essentially at state level (63.0% vs 62.7%). Biology is close (61.8% vs 67.0%). Geometry is a severe weakness at 24.0% versus 43.3% statewide, and social studies is weak across the board: American Government 56.3% vs 71.6%, and American History 54.1% vs 73.2%. On subgroup effectiveness, McKinley earned 1 star for female, male, White, multiracial, and gifted students, and 2 stars for African American students, special education students, and low-income students; the gifted group fell from the 66th percentile two years earlier to the 20th. Overall, McKinley trails Mathews High School and the other higher-ranked nearby districts, sits close to Liberty, and remains above Warren Harding and the area's alternative and charter schools, including Summit Academy Alternative LearnersWarren Middle & Secondary.
