Summary

Lakewood High School is a large, comprehensive public high school serving grades 9–12 with 1,372 students in Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb just west of Cleveland, and is part of the Lakewood City district. In 2025–2026 it ranked 317th of 795 Ohio high schools — the 60th percentile, with 3 stars — down from its recent peak of 177th of 867 (80th percentile, 4 stars) in 2022–2023. It is the largest school in its local comparison group and still outperforms most nearby Cleveland Municipal high schools, which rank mostly in the 4th–15th percentile.

Its clearest strength is completion: the graduation rate rose to 98.2% in 2025–2026, above the district's 97.2%, close to Rocky River High School's 98.7%, and far above the 70.1%–88.1% range of nearby Cleveland Municipal high schools. Test scores are strongest in social studies and science: American Government 83.5, American History 84.4, and Biology 79.0 — roughly 10–12 points above state averages. English II (70.6) is also above the state average, while Geometry (48.3) is above the state but low overall.

Three warning signs stand out. Chronic absenteeism has climbed to 37.5%, well above the district's 21.8% and nearly double Rocky River's 19.3%, though still better than many nearby Cleveland schools. Algebra I is the weakest subject: 56.0% proficiency, below both the district and the state, and down from 74.7% four years earlier. Statewide effectiveness measures have also slipped for several student groups, including low-income students, whose percentile fell from 79 to 37 in two years. Bard Early College Cleveland is a nearby peer that ranks slightly higher overall and leads in math and English, while Lakewood leads in history and biology.

Lakewood High School has diverse student body and outstanding educational staff. I am a Lakewood High School student and am thankful for all my school has to offer! With tons of electives and an OUTSTANDING orchestra program our student body is very fluent in the arts and are independent thinking well rounded people. The atmosphere of the school Is very good as well, unlike other schools at Lakewood I feel that our student body feels free enough to express themselves in any way they want without fear of judgment by their peers and have a sense of community throughout the school!
