Summary

Hamilton High School is a large public high school in Hamilton, Ohio, serving grades 9–12 with 2,403 students — the biggest school in its comparison group — in the Hamilton City district. The school is ranked 515 of 795 Ohio high schools in 2025–2026 (35th percentile, 2 stars), while the Hamilton City district ranks 570 of 773 (26th percentile, 1 star). Its history shows a school that has generally sat in the lower half of the state but has improved from its lowest points: it was at the 25th–26th percentile in 2015–16 and 2016–17, peaked at the 58th percentile in 2021–2022, and has since settled at 35th percentile.

Two numbers stand out for families. The graduation rate is a genuine strength: 97.6% in 2025–2026, well above the district's 89.3% and higher than Fairfield High School (94.2%) and Edgewood High School (93.9%), and close to Ross High School (98.2%). But chronic absenteeism is a serious challenge at 45.6%, compared with 31.1% for the district, 28.9% at Fairfield and 19.3% at Ross. Test scores are mostly near state averages — exactly at the state mark in American Government and close in English II, History, Geometry and Algebra I — but Biology is 6.9 points below the state, and Geometry proficiency is just 42.4%. Algebra I is also lower than the district's own average (60.4% vs. 65.6%), an unusual weak spot.

Subgroup results are more encouraging than the overall rating suggests: African American students rank at the 57th percentile, low-income students at the 52nd, homeless students at the 75th and gifted students at the 80th. Locally, Hamilton High outperforms Edgewood and New Miami High School on most achievement measures and is far stronger than same-district Miami School, but trails Fairfield and Ross. Per-student spending was $7,896 in 2018–2019, lower than most nearby districts, and the 2024–2025 student-teacher ratio is 20.1.
