Ross High School

Ross High School is a 9–12 comprehensive high school on Hamilton Cleves Road in Hamilton, Ohio, serving 893 students as the flagship of the Ross Local district in the suburban and exurban area north of Cincinnati.

Academically, Ross is the clear leader among the eight nearby high schools. In 2025–2026 it posted the highest proficiency rate in all six End-of-Course subjects — American Government (90.3%), American History (85.4%), Biology (76.8%), English II (71.8%), Geometry (56.3%), and Algebra I (80.5%). It beats the state average by about 13.6 points on average and beats every neighbor, including the next-best, Fairfield High School. The Algebra I gap is the widest: Ross's 80.5% compares with 59.7% at Colerain High School, 27.2% at Mt Healthy High School, and 21.6% at Winton Woods High School. Ross graduates 98.2% of students, holding between 96.5% and 98.4% for five straight years, and its chronic absenteeism rate of 19.3% is the best among the comprehensive high schools here — roughly half of Colerain's 38.3% and Hamilton High School's 45.6%. About 26% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, versus 53–61% at Fairfield, Northwest High School, and Colerain.

Two cautions stand out. Ross's state rank has eased from the 91st percentile five years ago to the 78th in 2025–2026, driven mostly by English II (a 10.4-point single-year drop) and Geometry (down 7.2 points over four years); Algebra I has stayed flat near 80%, leaving Geometry 24 points below it as the school's lowest subject. Separately, low-income students rank at the 61st percentile, down from the 72nd and the only core subgroup below four stars, while special education students rank at the 79th percentile — above the school's overall standing. Attendance is best-in-class locally but still nearly double Ross Local's 10.3% district figure, and the gifted-and-talented ranking (48th percentile) comes from a comparison pool that shrank from 538 schools to 244, making it unreliable year to year.
