Riverview Elementary School

Riverview Elementary School is a PK–6 school serving about 640 students on Knightsbridge Drive in Hamilton, Ohio, part of the Hamilton City school district, and it is mid-sized among the district's eight elementary schools.

By the numbers, Riverview ranks 1,177th of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools — the 25th percentile, one star — and it has never climbed above the 32nd percentile in a decade of state rankings. On 2025–2026 state tests, the school scored below both the district and the state on all nine tested subject-grades, averaging 43.5% proficient versus 53.4% for the district and 62.1% statewide, and it finished seventh or eighth of the eight Hamilton City elementaries on every one of those tests. The comparison to Ridgeway Elementary School, about 2.5 miles away, is the starkest: same district, same PK–6 setup, nearly identical class sizes, yet Ridgeway sits in the 51st percentile with three stars and beats Riverview on all nine tests — while spending less per student. Fairfield West Elementary School, in nearby Fairfield City, ranks in the 60th percentile with three stars despite having the largest classes and lowest spending in the comparison set.

There are real bright spots. Chronic absenteeism has fallen from 35.1% to 24.1% in three years and now runs about seven points better than the district average — the one measure where the school clearly beats the middle of its peer group. Grade 5 is consistently its strongest year, with reading results close to district averages. The weakest areas are English language arts, especially grades 3, 4 and 6, and grade 6 overall, which has slipped in three of the last four years. Two caveats: per-pupil spending figures date to 2018–2019, and grade-level results reflect different groups of students from year to year rather than the same children tracked over time.
