Summary

Whetstone High School is a 1,017-student, grades 9–12 comprehensive high school on Scenic Drive on Columbus's north side, part of the Columbus City Schools District, a district that itself ranks in the bottom tier of Ohio districts. Roughly 2.7 miles away sit the suburban Upper Arlington High School and Thomas Worthington High School, which serve a very different student population.

Academically, Whetstone High School ranks in the 22nd percentile of Ohio high schools, and its results vary sharply by subject. Social studies is the strength: American History proficiency is 73.2%, exactly the state average, and American Government is 68.8%, close behind. Biology (56.2%) and English II (53.1%) trail the state by about 10 points. Math is the defining weakness: Geometry sits 21.8 points below the state, and Algebra I is 18.0% — 43.6 points below the state, the only subject where Whetstone trails its own district, and the fourth straight year of decline. Overall, the school beats its district in five of six tested subjects but trails Ohio in all six.
