Summary

Yadkinville Elementary is a PK–5 school in Yadkinville, NC, serving 478 students as part of Yadkin County Schools. The school serves a student body where about 96% of families qualify for free/reduced-price lunch, yet it maintains smaller class sizes than most nearby schools (about 14 students per teacher) and strong attendance, with chronic absenteeism well below the state average.

Academically, the picture is mixed. In the most recent year, 4th grade math was a real strength, with 67% proficiency that beat the district and state averages. However, reading lags in every grade, and 5th grade appears to be a challenging transition year, with math and science scores dropping well below state averages. Scores also swing notably from year to year and grade to grade, suggesting outcomes can depend heavily on a particular teacher or class cohort. By comparison, East Bend Elementary and Forbush Elementary in the same district rank much higher, though Forbush serves a far less economically disadvantaged population. Interestingly, Lewisville Elementary serves a similarly high-poverty population yet ranks in the top 5% of the state, showing that strong results are possible even with high need.

There are some encouraging nuances beneath the overall ranking. When compared only to other low-income students across North Carolina, Yadkinville's students score near the statewide median for that group, suggesting the school is doing reasonably well for its core population. Hispanic students also perform near their statewide subgroup average. However, White students rank in the bottom 11th percentile among their peers statewide, and English learner and gifted student outcomes have been very inconsistent in recent years. Resource investments — including lower student-teacher ratios and above-average per-pupil spending — have not yet translated into stable, above-average test scores, and the school's overall state ranking has drifted downward over the past decade.
