Hilburn Drive Academy in Raleigh, NC, is a 4-star public school serving about 596 students from Pre-K through 8th grade within Wake County Schools. It is a solid middle-to-upper-tier option in the North Raleigh area, ranking in the 76th percentile statewide. A few nearby elementary schools rank higher—Leesville Road Elementary (98th percentile), Barton Pond Elementary (97th), Jeffreys Grove Elementary (96th), Sycamore Creek Elementary (90th), and Stough Elementary (85th)—but Hilburn outranks nearby schools such as Lead Mine Elementary, Lynn Road Elementary, York Elementary, and Baileywick Road Elementary.

The most distinctive part of Hilburn Drive Academy is its Pre-K-through-8 setup, which gives families one school from the early years through middle school. That seems to pay off most clearly in the upper grades: 7th grade reading proficiency was 76.5% and 8th grade reading 75.6%, both roughly ten points better than the district average, while 8th grade science hit 86.7%. Parents of students in special education or academically gifted programs may want to ask about recent outcomes for those groups, since those results have been less consistent. Overall, though, Hilburn Drive Academy is a solid, improving neighborhood school with a valuable Pre-K-through-8 option—just make sure to evaluate your child’s specific grade and program before deciding.

I absolutely love this school. From my experience the teachers really care about the students’ success here. They are very proactive when it comes to bullying prevention. Teachers and staff are always happy to see the students, especially in the morning during arrival. In my opinion, this is extra important when it comes to setting the tone for the remainder of the day, especially for the little ones. Communication between parents and teachers/staff has been phenomenal. I am also very satisfied with the curriculum. Close Quote

I'm surprised the ratings are so low. It's a K-8 SteEM school that at least four private schools have copied. It also has minimal forced bussing. We love Hilburn! Close Quote

All three of our children have gone here. It has been a really great experience in every way. There are a few subpar teachers, but that can be true for most schools. Overall he teachers, administration, and parents all contribute to make Hilburn one of the best schools in the area. Close Quote
