Summary

Lynn Road Elementary is a PK–5 school in Raleigh, NC, serving 486 students as part of Wake County Schools. In the most recent 2025–26 ranking cycle, the school placed at the 58th percentile statewide with a 3-star rating. That places it mid-pack in the local cluster: well ahead of Baileywick Road Elementary, but well behind Jeffreys Grove Elementary and North Ridge Elementary, both located just a few miles away. Lynn Road has improved from its pre-2020 standing in the 25th–33rd percentile range to roughly the 43rd–59th percentile range since then.

Where Lynn Road stands out is early elementary. Third- and fourth-grade math proficiency is above both Wake County and North Carolina averages, and third-grade reading is close behind. The challenge shows up by fifth grade, when proficiency in math, reading, and science falls 13–16 points below the county average. Science has been a persistent weakness for years. The comparison with Baileywick Road Elementary is telling: both schools serve similar poverty rates of about 57–58%, yet Lynn Road exceeds Baileywick by 12–24 points in early-grade reading and math — evidence that the school is achieving meaningful results with its students.

The main caution signs are attendance and equity. Chronic absenteeism rose to 21.0% in 2024–25, slightly above the Wake County average, after a few years of improvement. Across subgroups, White, English Language Learner, and special education students rank relatively well statewide, while African American and low-income students rank in the bottom quartile — a gap worth asking the school about. Families should also note that the gifted-identified subgroup has dropped sharply in percentile ranking over the past two years. Ultimately, Lynn Road is best understood as a school with real early-grade strengths and a high-poverty enrollment (57.2% free or reduced-price lunch) — one that is improving but has not yet established a consistent trajectory through fifth grade.

Open Quote Great school. My child came to this school in the 1st grade and was not reading. Within 2 months, he was reading very well. Close Quote

Open Quote My son is a first grader at Lynn Road Elementary. This is a new school as we recently moved to Raleigh. He loves it. He's made friends and enjoys learning now. At his previous school (in another county) he was bullied and had a hard time making friends. So far the teacher's seem competent and nice. I like Lynn Road Elementary! Close Quote
