Summary

Zebulon Elementary is a public magnet elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Zebulon, North Carolina, with 595 students enrolled. The school is part of the Wake County Schools district, which is ranked 60th out of 242 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's higher per-student spending and relatively low student-teacher ratio, Zebulon Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom 15-20% of North Carolina elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's proficiency rates in Math, Reading, and Science are significantly lower than the Wake County and North Carolina averages across all grade levels. For instance, in 2024-2025, only 40.9% of 3rd graders were proficient in Math, compared to 71.1% in Wake County and 64.1% statewide. The school's performance is particularly weak for certain student subgroups, such as female and Hispanic students.

The school's high poverty rate, with 50.84% to 76.13% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch over the past few years, likely contributes to the lower academic performance compared to the district and state. While Zebulon Elementary faces significant challenges in improving student outcomes, several nearby schools, including those in other districts such as Cardinal Charter Academy at Wendell Falls, Franklin County Schools, Nash County Public Schools, and Johnston County Public Schools, also struggle with low academic achievement, suggesting that the school may be facing broader systemic issues in the region.

Open Quote The administration at this school is terrible. Each child is an individual and you cannot fit each child into a box. If you have a child with ADHD, they do not know how to handle it, nor are they interested in parent involvement. The school counselor is the worst I've ever encountered. Please do not send your child here!! Close Quote
