Summary

Jones Intermediate is an elementary school located in Mount Airy, North Carolina, serving grades 3-5 with a total enrollment of 338 students. The school is part of the Mount Airy City Schools district, which is ranked 101 out of 242 districts in the state.

While Jones Intermediate's academic performance, as measured by End-of-Grade (EOG) test scores, is generally below the state average and the performance of the Mount Airy City Schools district, the school has some areas of strength. For example, its 5th-grade Science proficiency rate (63.2%) is slightly higher than the state average (62%). However, the school's African American and Special Education students have particularly low rankings, with the African American students ranking in the bottom 20% of North Carolina elementary schools and the Special Education students ranking in the bottom 15%. In contrast, Jones Intermediate's English Language Learner (ELL) students and Gifted and Talented students perform relatively well, ranking in the top 35% and top 15% of North Carolina elementary schools, respectively.

The school's proximity to several other elementary schools in the Surry County Schools district presents an opportunity for collaboration and resource sharing. By learning from the successful practices of higher-performing nearby schools, such as Pilot Mountain Elementary and Dobson Elementary, Jones Intermediate may be able to identify and implement strategies to improve its own academic outcomes, particularly for its disadvantaged student populations.

Open Quote Terrible terrible terrible school....out of control and they aren’t interested in education but interested in making sure that all kids feel good. There is 0 to none parent involvement and no textbooks for the kids. The admins are horrible and kids take state tests that they haven’t even been taught the info on. I would NEVER sallow my child to go there. Close Quote
