Summary

Upchurch Elementary is a public elementary school located in Raeford, North Carolina, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 645 students. The school is part of the Hoke County Schools district, which is ranked 167 out of 242 districts in the state.

Upchurch Elementary's performance on state assessments (EOG) is generally below the Hoke County Schools and North Carolina state averages across grades and subjects, particularly in Reading. The school performs relatively well for its African American student population, ranking in the top 25% of North Carolina elementary schools for this subgroup in recent years. However, the school struggles with its Hispanic, White, and English Language Learner student populations, ranking in the bottom half or bottom third of the state. Upchurch Elementary has an extremely high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 98.86% to 99.57% in recent years, significantly higher than the state average.

The relatively high student-teacher ratio at Upchurch Elementary, ranging from 15.2 to 16.5 students per teacher in recent years, combined with its lower per-student spending of $9,060 in 2018-2019 compared to some nearby schools, may indicate the school is facing resource constraints that could impact its ability to provide individualized attention and support to students. Examining the school's staffing levels, teacher qualifications, and resource allocation could provide insights into potential areas for improvement to address the unique needs of the school community.

Open Quote This the worst elementary school I have ever encountered. The VP is very rude and unprofessional. This school is not accommodating for special needs children. Absolutely no security. Parents have to risk their children’s safety when walking them to class by crossing a road to get them to school. No sign to indicate where you can’t park. This is not a military friendly school. This school is a disaster waiting to happen. I am currently looking for a new home in a different school district. Close Quote
