Summary

Fairview Elementary is a PK-5 school in High Point, NC, serving 442 students in Guilford County Schools, where 99.1% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. The school is among the lowest-performing in North Carolina: its 2025-26 ranking of 1,429th out of 1,492 elementary schools puts it in the 4th percentile with a 0-star rating, a steep drop from the prior two years at the 14th and 19th percentiles. Test scores fall well below district and state averages in nearly every grade and subject, with the largest gaps in reading.

Reading is the clearest challenge. In third grade, 25.9% of students were proficient, compared with 51.3% in Guilford County Schools and 55.6% statewide. Fifth-grade reading has stayed persistently low, ranging from about 20% to 31% over the past several years. Several nearby elementary schools serving similarly high-poverty populations post much stronger results: Johnson Street Global Studies ranks at the 47th percentile, Archdale Elementary School at the 35th, and Kirkman Park Elementary at the 33rd, while Fairview sits at the 4th. Fairview does outpace one close neighbor, Oak Hill Elementary, which ranks at the 3rd percentile but has lower math and reading proficiency in several grades.

Not every signal is discouraging. Fairview’s English Learner students scored at the 56th percentile statewide in 2025-26 and earned three stars, making them the school’s strongest subgroup and a potential source of effective strategies. Chronic absenteeism has also improved dramatically, from 73.2% in 2020-21 to 28.3% in 2024-25 — below the Guilford County average and lower than peer schools such as Union Hill Elementary, Parkview Village Elementary, and Montlieu Academy of Technology. Attendance gains alone have not yet closed learning gaps, so the school will need targeted academic support and stronger reading instruction. For parents, Fairview is currently a very low-performing school with a difficult 2025-26 school year, but it also has encouraging pockets of progress worth watching.
