Summary

Parkview Village Elementary is a small PK–5 school in High Point, NC, serving roughly 297 students, almost all of whom come from low-income households. The school is part of Guilford County Schools and has historically ranked near the bottom in North Carolina, but it has begun to move up: after two years in the bottom 4% with a 0-star rating, Parkview earned a 1-star rating and reached the 13th percentile statewide in 2025–2026. Still, it lags most nearby schools, including Jamestown Elementary, Oak View Elementary, and Johnson Street Global Studies, and remains below the state median in most subjects.

The biggest challenge is attendance. Parkview's chronic absenteeism rate was 40.3% in 2024–2025, far above the district rate of 29.2% and the state rate of 24.2%. Only Montlieau Academy of Technology is comparable at 40.7%; other nearby schools serving similar populations, such as Jamestown Elementary at 23.4% and Johnson Street Global Studies at 27.0%, have much better attendance. Academically, the school shows genuine strength in early grades: 3rd-grade math proficiency reached 54.8%, and 4th-grade reading hit 47.7%, the second-highest in the area behind Johnson Street Global Studies. But momentum fades by 5th grade, where math proficiency (35.0%) is the lowest among nearby schools and reading (35.0%) trails most of them as well.

There are genuine bright spots. Parkview has made real progress with African American students: its ranking for that group rose from the 7th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 45th percentile in 2025–2026, its strongest subgroup result, and reading scores have climbed across the school. The school also has solid resources: it spends about $13,734 per pupil, among the highest locally, and keeps a low student-teacher ratio of 12.7. Chronic absenteeism remains the most critical barrier, though, and recent outcomes for English language learners have declined. With attendance hovering near 40% year after year, even well-resourced classrooms face an uphill battle. If Parkview can improve attendance and build on its early-grade progress, the school has real room to keep climbing.
