Summary

Aggie Academy is a very small public elementary school in northeast Greensboro, North Carolina, that serves just 85 students in grades 3–5, nearly all of them from low-income families, and operates as its own single-school district — the Aggie Academy district — rather than belonging to Guilford County Schools.

Despite its small size, the school posts impressive results, especially in the earlier grades. In 2025–26, 87.5% of its third graders were proficient in math — far above the state average of 66.4% and ahead of every nearby comparison school, including Guilford Preparatory Academy, Rankin Elementary, and Gate City Charter. Fourth graders also beat state averages in reading and math. Attendance is another strength: only 15.2% of students were chronically absent, compared with roughly 34% to 45% at nearby Guilford County elementary schools such as Brightwood Elementary and Rankin Elementary. Students from low-income families rank above the school's overall standing on statewide tests, an unusual pattern suggesting that very small classes (a ratio near 7:1) and strong daily attendance make a real difference.

The weak spot is fifth grade. In 2025–26, only 35.3% of fifth graders were proficient in reading, and math and science hovered near 47% — from 15 to 20 points below state averages, and well behind nearby Guilford Preparatory Academy and Summit Creek Academy. A gender gap also emerged in the latest year: female students ranked in the 55th percentile statewide, while male students ranked in the 14th. Because the entire school has only 85 students, each grade-level score reflects roughly 25 to 30 children, so these numbers can swing sharply from year to year. The jump in free-lunch eligibility to 96.5% most likely reflects a change in federal meal reporting, not a sudden shift in the neighborhood.
