Summary

Bessemer Elementary is a public elementary school located in Greensboro, North Carolina, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 468 students. The school is part of the Guilford County Schools district, which is ranked 142 out of 242 districts in North Carolina and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bessemer Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of North Carolina elementary schools, with proficiency rates in Mathematics, Reading, and Science that are significantly lower than the Guilford County and North Carolina state averages across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Bessemer Elementary's 3rd-grade Mathematics proficiency rate is 41.3%, compared to 62.4% for Guilford County and 64.1% for North Carolina. The school has a very high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 99.36% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2023-2024 school year.

While the nearby schools, such as Washington Elementary, Rankin Elementary, and Bluford Elementary, also have high percentages of students from low-income families and struggle with academic performance, they generally outperform Bessemer Elementary. This suggests that Bessemer Elementary may be facing unique challenges or resource constraints that are not shared by the other schools in the area, and more comprehensive and targeted interventions may be needed to support the students and improve educational outcomes at the school.

Open Quote MY DAUGHTER WENT TO THIS SCHOOL LAST YEAR AND THE YEAR BEFORE THEN I MUST SAY THAT THE TEACHERS ARE EXCELLENT AND WORK VERY HARD TO GET EVERY CHILD ON THE RIGHT TRACK. WE AS PARENTS HAVE TO WORK WITH THE TEACHERS TO SEE THAT OUR KIDS ARE LEARNING ON GRADE LEVEL, TO SUCCEED THE GOALS.THIS YEAR I WILL HAVE 3 KIDS ATTTENDING :) I LOVE THIS SCHOOL AND I THINK IT DESERVES MORE APPRECIATION THAN IT GETS.
