Summary

Valor Preparatory Academy is a public charter school located in Concord, North Carolina, serving 804 students in grades K-12. As an alternative school, Valor Preparatory Academy aims to provide a unique educational experience for its students, but it faces several key challenges compared to nearby charter schools.

Valor Preparatory Academy's academic performance lags behind that of nearby charter schools like Community School of Davidson, Lake Norman Charter, and Corvian Community School. The school's proficiency rates in EOG/EOC assessments, particularly in mathematics and science, are significantly lower than the state and nearby charter school averages. Additionally, Valor Preparatory Academy's four-year graduation rate has fluctuated, ranging from 63.3% to 87.7%, which is lower than the 87.7% rate of the nearby charter schools.

Another key difference is the socioeconomic status of Valor Preparatory Academy's student population. The school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 37.38% in 2021-2022 to 60.32% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the nearby charter schools. This suggests that Valor Preparatory Academy serves a population with lower socioeconomic status, which may contribute to the school's lower academic performance and graduation rates. Despite these challenges, Valor Preparatory Academy maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 9.8 to 14.4 over the past three years, which is lower than the nearby charter schools.

Open Quote Run! Both lower and upper campuses need new principals. They all have their heads in the sand and lawyers on speed dial, just to give the bare minimum to any child at the school. Teachers can verbally assault parents and have been caught physical harming special need children and the school turned an eye on it and would have continued to do so.. Close Quote

Open Quote This school lacks everything. They spend more time on taking money from our pockets and using it for Starbucks and McDonald's. Instead of spending time doing that they should be worried about getting a gym and for student needs. The teachers barely do their jobs yet thier get treats and snacks. Students should be able to have Chick-Fil-A. CCA is a waste of time. Close Quote
