As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Very disappointing year. New building and grounds not maintained. No thought put into low maintenance and natural landscaping. Such a waste of money. Not a school for secondary students. Secondary administration is out of touch with deiscipline strategies for a diverse population and frequently bullies staff and students to get waht they want. The School Board is aware of what is going on has made no steps for improvement. No after school activities or sports for secondary. Few elective choices. PTSO is active for Elementary - not for middle and high school. The majority of students who attend for elementary go elsewhere for middle and high school. We mow know why. Insane amount of homework each night as well as assigned projects and HW over breaks when it is family time. This is also not a school for any child who is on an IEP or 504 plan. Appropriate modifications to support children are not being made. Many wonderful secondary teachers left last year. Expect many of the new ones to leave this year. They have already lost several during the school year. Administration is not honest, organized, or accurate - only telling you what they think you want to hear instead of the truth. many issues with keeping accurate records including something as simple as attendance. Open Quote This is my child's first year at Carolina International School and we will not be returning. We were thrilled and thought we had found the perfect secondary school for our child. We were told many great things about the school, but have experienced something completely different. Please read previous reviews. We wished we had. Though much has changed, even with a new building, it is not better. It can't be! Current administration is still a problem. They don't seem to know what they are doing or are quite overwhelmed with the tasks of their job in a new building. Communication is terrible. Parents are not welcome in the classrooms. Student records are not accurate. Class options are very limited. Students have very few choices, if given any. Sports and extra-curricular activities are minimum at best. On the flip side, there are many good teachers who do a great job, but are bullied by administration. Apparently there was a large exit of some very good and beloved teachers last year due issues with administration. Good teachers were hired to replace them. I don't expect most of them to stay. The active PTSO does a lot for the elementary school, not for Secondary. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has recently relocated to Concord, NC to a beautiful campus! I have 2 children here and I am very pleased witht he education they are receiving. The teachers are very engaged and genuinely interested in teaching the children. Coming from public school the curriculum is more challenging and really prepares the children for the next level. Overall, I am very pleased with the school and look forward to more wonderful years. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter started kindergarten at CIS this year and she loves it. Her teacher, Ms. Lester, is an absolute angel. She is very responsive for emails and phone calls and will go out of her way to help you and your child.

The only problem I have is that I have come in contact with SEVERAL rude teachers on the campus. I am younger than most mothers who have school aged children, which might be the problem, but I have felt like I was being talked DOWN to on several occasions by a PE teacher and a middle school teacher. I also feel like the office administration could be run better. I do not see very many "officers" on the campus, so if something were to ever happen, like a fight, I am not sure they would know how to handle it.

All around, CIS is a better school than ANY Charlotte Mecklenburg School and most Cabarrus County Schools. It is very sought after and I am very thankful my child was able to get in. I definitely recommend to all of my friends! Close Quote

Open Quote When reading a review please always look at the date. Our previous financial manager (now incarcerated)embezzled from the school and was caught in 2008. We have attended the school since it started. My oldest is in 5th grade. We love the school for our daughter. Our son who has learning problems, it was not the best school for him. They do not have the resources for children with severe learning disabilities. We continue to support the school and look forward to the new direction it will be under as the current administration is leaving. I am not sure that this is a bad thing. The previous administration did not welcome parental involvement. In fact they could not even remember parents or children's names. We have some wonderful teachers and some ok teachers as you do with every school. We have weathered some rough times with the embezzlement but I still would not hesitate to send my non learning disabled children here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
