Community School of Davidson

Community School of Davidson is a K-12 charter school in Davidson, North Carolina, serving 1,631 students and operating as its own single-school district in a competitive corridor of charters that includes Pine Lake Preparatory and Langtree Charter Academy just miles away. The school's most distinctive metric is attendance: only 6.5% of students were chronically absent in 2024–2025, compared with 24.2% statewide. That is the lowest rate among nearby reporting charters, whose average is about 18.6%. At Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, the rate is 35.9%, making CSD's stability stand out even more.

Academically, CSD exceeded the North Carolina state proficiency average on every EOG and EOC test reported in the latest data, with an overall proficiency rate near 79% versus roughly 59% statewide. Its signature strengths include middle-grades math and science: 6th grade math proficiency is 90.7%, and 8th grade science is 89.4%. High-school EOC results are likewise strong, with English II at 92.6% and Math III at 94.1%. Among nearby K-12 charters with a complete test profile, CSD ranks third, behind Pine Lake Preparatory and Lake Norman Charter, but ahead of Lincoln Charter School and Corvian Community School, and well above Carolina International School and Pioneer Springs Community School.

The clearest academic flag is Math I, the Algebra I gateway course. CSD's Math I EOC proficiency is 45.9%, barely above the 42.1% state average and far below its own other EOC results. Nearby Pine Lake Preparatory (86.7%), Corvian Community School (83.0%), and Lake Norman Charter (76.8%) all post much higher Math I proficiency, so this transition point is the area most worth monitoring. The encouraging context is that CSD students who advance beyond Math I perform exceptionally well, suggesting the school's overall pipeline is strong. For parents weighing options, CSD is an upper-tier charter in a very competitive area, with outstanding attendance, consistent state-beating proficiency, and the Math I question as its main item to watch.
