Summary

Red Oak Elementary is a public elementary school in Shakopee, Minnesota, serving 455 students in grades PK-5. As part of the Shakopee Public School District, Red Oak has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking over the past decade, ranging from 259 to 560 out of around 850-880 Minnesota elementary schools. While its overall performance on the MCA-III assessments has been mixed, with proficiency rates in math and reading generally below the district and state averages, the school has shown stronger performance in certain student subgroups, such as African American and English Language Learner students, where it has ranked among the top 20-25% of Minnesota elementary schools in recent years.

Compared to nearby schools in the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools district, which generally outperform Red Oak on the MCA-III assessments, Red Oak Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 10.9 to 12.0 over the past few years. This may indicate more individualized attention for students. However, Red Oak also has a higher percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 43.64% to 58.4% over the past few years, which is higher than the Shakopee district average and suggests a larger population of students from low-income backgrounds.

While Red Oak Elementary faces some challenges in terms of its overall academic performance, the school's strengths in supporting certain student subgroups and its relatively low student-teacher ratio suggest that there may be opportunities for improvement. By learning from the success of the higher-performing nearby schools and addressing the potential impacts of socioeconomic factors, Red Oak Elementary could work to enhance the educational outcomes for all of its students.

Open Quote I was a student at Red Oak Elementary many years ago and I hated it.
The teachers were all extremely rude to me and all they would do to me when I told them that I was getting bullied, is laugh! I was constantly made fun of and the education was atrocious. The teachers would simply send you out of the classroom if you didn't get the concept and asked them a question. I would come home crying everyday. The teachers at this school don't care about the students at all and just want money. Thus, this school is awful. Close Quote
