Within Austin, Southgate is the clear academic leader. Its all-grades proficiency of 46.5% in math and 44.9% in reading beats Neveln Elementary (44.2%/36.2%), Banfield Elementary (34.0%/30.7%), and Sumner Elementary (27.7%/22.3%), and it does so while serving the lowest-poverty population of the four (55.66% free/reduced lunch, down from 64.52% two years earlier).
