Halverson Elementary has shown mixed academic performance compared to the state and district averages. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in Math (44.52%) and Reading (38.36%) for all grades were lower than the state averages (45.21% and 49.59%, respectively), but higher than the Albert Lea Public School District averages (27.75% and 37.4%). However, the school's performance in Science exceeds the district and state averages. Halverson Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 11.5 to 13.6 in recent years, which may contribute to more personalized attention for students.

Compared to nearby schools, Halverson Elementary generally performs better than the other Albert Lea public elementary schools, but the nearby Nrheg Elementary and Alden-Conger Elementary, which are outside the Albert Lea Public School District, outperform Halverson Elementary in both Math and Reading proficiency rates. The school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 62.16% to 80.46% in recent years, suggests that the school serves a population with significant economic challenges, which may impact academic performance.

Open Quote As a long time Albert Lea resident we have had children and grandchildren attend every school in the district. If we had to put into a 1-10 category of good being 10 and bad at 1.. Halverson Elementary School ranks the worst at the bottom of the list.. Everybody that has delt with this school regrets moving into its area of town. And usually moves out of there in two years or less.. The Pricipal is the rudest Educator in this area.. Her views are the only way she wants to see things.. She believes sending a kindergartner out in cold weather with no coast or gat is perfectly fine...... This school has done nothing but go down hill in the 20 some odd years we've lived here.. SO SAD!! Close Quote
