Albert Lea Senior High

Albert Lea Senior High is a 1,196-student campus serving grades 8–12 on Tiger Lane in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and it is the largest school in its immediate area — roughly three times the size of NRHEG Secondary — as the flagship of Albert Lea Public School District. It ranks in the 52nd percentile of Minnesota high schools (229th of 473) with a 3-star rating, its best showing in the reported series and up from the 25th percentile a decade ago. Notably, the school substantially outperforms its own district, which sits at the 23rd percentile.

Graduation is the clearest strength: 89.0% of students graduate, above the state's 84.9% and well above the district's 76.2% — a 7–13 point gap over the district in each of the last five years. The school also edges out nearby Austin Senior High on graduation (89.0% vs. 81.2%) and dropout (5.9% vs. 11.8%), while serving a similarly high-poverty student population (50.67% free/reduced lunch). English Language Learner students are the best-served group, ranking in the 79th percentile statewide with 4 stars.

The main weaknesses are math and reading proficiency, which trail the state badly — though the "all grades" figures blend a struggling 8th-grade cohort with a stronger high school. Eleventh-grade math is 32.1% against the state's 35.3%, and End-of-Course science is 34.8% against 35.0%, while 8th-grade science sits at just 6.1% versus the state's 16.7%. Dropout (5.9%) also runs above the state's 4.2%, even though it is far below the district's 10.2%. One caution for parents: in 2025–26 the school's relative rank rose even as its own proficiency rates fell in all three subjects.
